Opportunities To Serve
As members of Howe Memorial UMC we know how important service was to Jesus.  He told us in his word He came to serve, not to be served.  As His followers we need to share His views.  Listed below are several current ways for you to get involved with the congregation and in our community as well.
Community Breakfast
Howe Memorial has been providing a Community Breakfast on Saturday mornings during the winter season for many years now.  This breakfast, served from 7 to 9:30 AM, offers a casual “diner style” atmosphere with breakfast specials and a la carte items available as well.  The breakfast is a great place to meet new people and keep up with the local happenings.  It is truly the heartbeat of Crescent City.

Thrift Store
Located just behind Howe Memorial is our Thrift Store. The hours of operation are Tuesday and Thursday from 9 to noon.  We have a wide variety of children’s, womens’ and men’s clothing starting at less than $1.00.   We also have a nice selection of household items, shoes, handbags, etc.

Music Programs
God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Some are involved in choir. Others are involved in the Adult & Youth Handbell Choirs. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of our church, using their talents and gifts to glorify God. Ask any choir member for more information.

Men’s Reunion Group
This men’s group meets every month for fellowship and a shared lunch.  Their activities include but are not limited to the Community Breakfast, helping with the Christian Service Center, and many other fund raising events.

Nursing Home Ministry
Howe Memorial UMC presents a monthly praise and worship service for the residents of Lakewood Nursing Home and Crescent Lake House here in Crescent City.  Long time members of this special ministry tell us they get as big a blessing as they give to the seniors.  Rusty is the contact person for this team.

South Putnam Christian Service Center
Howe Memorial UMC is thrilled to be part of the South Putnam Christian Service Center.  We are active in supporting this non-profit organization that provides services to the economically challenged people of this area.  From time to financial donations, there is always an opportunity to help share God’s love thorough the center.   We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers; it’s an excellent way to minister in our own community.

Media & Technology
Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of this church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes.Join the Communications Team and help produce the weekly bulletins, AV presentations, and monthly newsletter.  We also maintain an active Facebook page for additional church communication. Contact Candy Enzor for more info.

Prayer Warriors
Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. Our Church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. Join our team of volunteers for weekly prayer for the ministry of the Word. Throughout the week, volunteers from our Prayer Warriors team pray for their pastor, a list of church members, any special requests, and missionary prayer needs. Anyone can join this group; just set aside some time for prayer in your home.
